Portimão Marina
Deep, quiet water at the mouth of the Arade, with two old forts on the headlands and Praia da Rocha just over the breakwater.
A safe harbour in the western Algarve
The Arade estuary is wide and deep, and it keeps the prevailing wind off your boat. Portimão Marina sits right at its mouth, between the old forts of Santa Catarina and São João. Step off the pontoon and you're a few minutes from Praia da Rocha, one of the best-known beaches on the Algarve coast.
You'll have up to four metres of water under you on arrival, so deeper keels aren't a problem. Ashore, the marina village has a hotel, restaurants, bars, shops and an ocean pool. It's the kind of place where a one-night stop can easily turn into a week.
